What is venous disease?
Varicose veins don't hurt or itch—they're just unsightly. Do they need treatment?

Yes! Varicose veins are a clear sign of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), meaning the “blood return pump” in your legs—the venous valves—has been damaged. Initially, they may appear as spider-like fine threads or twisted “worm-like veins.” However, without intervention, the condition will progressively worsen, potentially leading to leg heaviness, pain, itching, skin pigmentation, and even blood clots or non-healing ulcers. It is a clear health warning, not merely a cosmetic issue.

Who is at high risk for varicose veins? Do I need prevention?

Occupational factors: Jobs requiring prolonged standing or sitting (e.g., teachers, nurses, programmers, drivers).
Genetic predisposition: Family history of varicose veins.
Other factors: Pregnancy, obesity, aging.
Preventive medical compression stockings can significantly delay or prevent the onset and worsening of varicose veins.

What changes can I expect after wearing compression stockings?

They effectively relieve existing symptoms like soreness, heaviness, and swelling.
They compress varicose veins to aid blood return, preventing further enlargement and deterioration.
They significantly improve quality of life and help avoid more complex treatments (like surgery) in the future.
